Isis Horus Ancient Egyptian: IST Greek ISIS
ISIS is best known for her key role in the resurrection of her husband Osiris.

The legend is told:- Set was jealous of Osiris and wanted him dead. To that end set held a banquet
and as a piece of entertainment fashioned a coffin that fitted only Osiris perfectly. He tricked Osiris
into trying the coffin and when he did slammed the lid shut, filled it with lead and disposed of it into
the Nile.

ISIS wanted to reclaim the body and give it a proper burial for fear of not being admitted into the
afterlife. She learned that the coffin had floated down the Nile to the land of Byblos, lodged itself in
a tree and then the tree absorbed the coffin because of it magical properties. This Cedar tree was then cut down and used in the supports for the King of Byblos’s palace.
ISIS successfully bargained for the release of Osiris’s body from the pillar and returned to Egypt. On the way she left the coffin in an areas of marshland and unbeknown to her
Set hacked the coffin and its contents into 14 pieces scattering them across Egypt.

After a an exhaustive search, ISIS managed to regain all parts except the phallus, which she fashioned from gold. After Osiris’s physical form was complete, she used her
magic extracted from Ra and bought him back to life. After successfully reviving Osiris she conceived Horus.

Over time, ISIS became a deity involved in the life-death-rebirth cycle reflecting people’s desires and hopes, thus increasing in importance.
