Horus, is the son of Isis and Osiris and is widely regarded as a significant deity in the Ancient Egyptian religion structure. Horus is portrayed as either a falcon, or a man with a falcon head, although there are other forms such as Ra-Horakty. The mythology of how Horus came to be is long, complicated and worthy of many more pages, but I will present the main points... Set was jealous of Osiris and Isis, so he set about a cunning plan to rid himself of his brother. He made a splendiferous burial coffin that would only fit Osiris which he presented at a feast. One by one the guests tried the coffin, only to find that they did not quite fit. Of course Osiris fitted perfectly and Set shut the coffin after filling it with molten lead and throwing it into the Nile. Horus was born to Isis after a long journey to recover all the parts of her Husband's body after magical copulation. Osiris is known particularly as the god of resurrection, because of this transformation. Horus swears vengeance for Osiris and fights Set on numerous occasions and in one battle Set cuts our Horus’ eye and scatters is into the night sky [the Ancient Egyptians regarded the moon one an eye of Horus and the sun the other]. After 80 years of battling and arguing with other gods, Horus eventually defeats Set in a boat race. Set concedes the throne of Egypt to him, but is still given the desert as as concession.
