Geb was the god of the earth and was mainly worshipped at Heliopolis from about the 3rd dynasty (2626-2613 BC) onwards. He was mainly depicted as a snake but also less frequently as a ram, bull or Crocodile according to various stages of the Political religious situation. Geb was a primeval deity portrayed as the father of Osiris and grandfather to Horus.
A part of the Heliopolis Ennead (Nine gods of creation concerning air, sky, earth etc) Geb played a central role in the creation myth of Ancient Egypt. He was portrayed as a man lying on his back facing the sky (Nut) in constant copulation until they were separated by Shu god of the air as it was said that if they were not , then chaos would return to earth.
